Lemon Ginger Mint Beverage

Are you looking for something refreshing and different to drink?  This Lemon Ginger Mint Beverage is all natural and actually has some great health benefits.

I’m usually a coffee and water drinker.  Maybe an occasional glass of wine or martini, but I don’t drink soda or juice.  I hate taking in all that sugar with a beverage.  If I’m going to eat sugar, I’ll go for a great dessert.

So, one day I wanted something a little different than my plain glass of water.  Not that I’m knocking water, because I love my fresh spring well water.  I decided to cut some of my fresh mint, dig up an inch or so of my ginger root, and had a lemon in my refrigerator.  I live in Florida and yet I don’t have a lemon tree.  Maybe I’ll have to get one.

Now I’m not going to get into all the great benefits of these ingredients because I’m not a nutrition expert, but I’ll mention a few things that might be helpful to some of you and you may just decide that you want to make this Lemon Ginger Mint Beverage.

  • High in Vitamin C – Great for your skin,  high in antioxidants, anti-cancer properties
  • Cleanses the liver, kidneys, and blood
  • Relieves or prevents digestive problems
  • Soothes a sore throat

  • Improves absorption of essential nutrients
  • Helps when you’re airsick or nauseous
  • Reduces flatulence
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Helps reduce congestion
  • And, possibly an aphrodisiac??

  • Aids with digestion
  • Helps irritable bowl syndrome
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • High in antioxidants

My recommendation is to use a pure water with no chemicals.  This is one of those times that I feel very lucky to live in the country and have well water direct from a natural spring.  I’ve been known to take my own water on vacations.

Even when I was traveling for work up to Georgia for a week at a time, I’d pack my car with my own well water.  Yes, I’m a little crazy.  After being used to my fresh spring water, city water just doesn’t taste good to me.

I have to admit that although there are some beneficial reasons to drink this Lemon Ginger Mint Beverage, I really just made it for a change of pace from my daily coffee routine.  I tried it hot as a tea, poured over ice, and also with some Grand Marnier (which you can choose to drink hot or cold).

Lemon Ginger Mint Beverage with Grand Marnier

“Spoiler Alert”

The spoiler is that there is quite a kick (or spicy bite) from the fresh ginger.  I loved it, but just wanted to warn you.  It’ll seem like you added some cayenne pepper to it, but if you choose to add a little something to sweeten your drink, it’ll tame it a bit.

Lemon Ginger Mint Beverage | Recipe

(4 – 8 oz. servings)

1 lemon
1 inch of ginger root
4-5 springs of mint
1 quart of water
Agave Nectar or Honey to sweeten (optional)

Slice and squeeze lemon into a medium sauce pan.

Chop ginger root into tiny cubes.

Toss in the mint and add the water.

Add ingred to pot with water

Bring to a boil and turn down to simmer for 10 minutes.  (If you choose to add a sweetener, add it while the water is hot so it will dissolve easier.)

Remove from heat and pour through a strainer to collect all pieces of lemon, ginger, and mint.

Pour through strainer

You can drink immediately as a hot beverage or refrigerate till cold and pour over ice.

If you like Grand Marnier, add a shot to your glass of Lemon Ginger Mint Beverage.
